An overactive bladder is when the bladder contracts strongly and the muscles surrounding the urethra (the tube that takes urine away from the bladder) are not able to stop urine passing.
An overactive bladder is often referred to as an irritable bladder, urge urinary incontinence, dry overactive bladder (dry OAB) or wet overactive bladder (wet OAB). Both underactive bladder and overactive bladder fall under the term ‘bladder dysfunction’.
