Pelvic Floor exercises

Pelvic floor muscle exercise (PFME) involves the contraction and relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles to improve bladder support and closure pressure of the urethra.  Pelvic floor exercises are most successful for stress incontinence and mixed incontinence, but may be of value to those with urge incontinence.

Referral to a physiotherapist is the most effective way of ensuring that the exercises are being done correctly and so give the best chance for success. Doing these exercises regularly can help to prevent and cure incontinence in both women and men and especially incontinence during pregnancy.
