Below are some of the most common questions about oooops moments and light bladder leakage.
What causes little leaks?

There are many situations that can cause bladder leakage. It could be that from an early age you have a weak pelvic floor and oooops moments, such as sneezing, exercises or laughing can trigger a leak. Or your pelvic floor could be weakened from a ‘life moment’ such as pregnancy or menopause. You can read more about little leaks over here.

What can I do to get rid of little leaks?

Can I use my muscles to prevent an ooops moment?

Before your muscles get stronger you can utilize your pelvic floor to prevent an ooops moment. Use what we called ‘the knack’. We know is difficult but always try to brace your pelvic floor muscles (by squeezing up and holding your pelvic floor contraction) before you cough, laugh, sneeze, lift your baby, or before to any activity which makes you have an ooops moment.

What and where are the pelvic floor muscles?

Your pelvic floor, or PC muscles, are a group of muscles that run from your pubic bone to your spine and hold your uterus, vagina, bowel and bladder in place. Strengthening your pelvic floor, also known as pelvic floor exercises, have a bunch of benefits which include support and strengthen your bladder, a positive impact on your general well-being and increase sensitivity during sex.

 
To feel your Pelvic floors in action, squeeze or clench as if you were holding in a wee and preventing breaking wind. These muscles are your pelvic floors, they’re easy to train, and it’s never too late (or early) to get started.

How often should you train your Pelvic Floor?

The Little Squeeze and the Big Squeeze together count as a set and it’s ideal if you can do 10 sets, 3 times a day (or once a day is great) and keep at it. It can take 3 to 6 months to see the effect.

How effective are Pelvic Floor exercises?

Pelvic Floors, aka Kegel Exercises are the most effective way to train your PC muscles. They can help improve, if not prevent, little leaks, oooops moments and stress incontinence (often associated with pregnancy) from happening. However, you need to form a good habit, 10 sets 3 times a day if you can manage (or once a day is great) and keep at it. It can take 3 to 6 months to see the effect. How do you know that the exercises work?

You can test your pelvic floor muscles with a simple stop–start test. When using the bathroom, begin to urinate and cut off the flow by contracting the muscles. This will feel similar to the pelvic floor exercises as uses the same muscles. You may not be able to completely stop the flow of urine to begin with, but you may notice that you are able to slow the flow down. With time, you should notice better control. Avoid using this test too often as it may cause problems with your bladder, once a fortnight is enough to test the muscles

The difference between lights by TENA and regular liners?

Will I have an ‘oooops moment’ during sex?

Do I need to cut out liquids?

It’s important to not drink less this will just make your wee more concentrated which irritates the bladder. Rather cut back on caffeinated, sugary and alcoholic drinks, these will make you want to go to the toilet more. It’s all about a healthy diet, and moderation of the treats that you enjoy.

Should I give up smoking?

Coughing, sneezing and laughing, can all cause accidental weeing. However, you can hardly stop your body reacting (especially when laughing, we say more of that please!). By giving up smoking, you’ll feel healthier and also prevent irritations that could make you cough.
