Types of light bladder leakage

There are two main types of urine leaks for women: stress and urge incontinence. Learning what type of little leak you’re dealing with can help you handle the Oooops moments in the best possible way.

Little leaks due to sudden exertion

Stress incontinence is also known as effort incontinence and is the most common type of little leaks among women. It happens when the body is physically exerting – for example when you sneeze, cough, laugh or work out. Stress incontinence is the result of insufficient strength of the muscles which close the bladder and it results in the loss of small amounts of urine.

Little leaks due to urge

Urge incontinence is a strong and often sudden uncontrollable urge to empty the bladder. It could be either a small or a larger leak, often due to involuntary bladder contractions. If you experience urge incontinence your bladder is sending false messages to your brain, telling it that it’s time to go to the toilet.
