Men: it’s time to tackle your health
Whether you enjoy a round of golf or a game of rugby, experiencing health conditions shouldn’t hold you back from enjoying your favourite sporting activities.
As a nation of sport lovers, it’s likely that most men will be watching the England Rugby World Cup game at the weekend, however, you may be surprised to learn that two out of three men aged over 45 do not get the recommended 30 minutes of exercise five times a week. While only 1 in 3 consider themselves to be fit compared to other men their age.
New research by the TENA Men: Time to Tackle Your Health campaign, has shown that men are increasingly anxious about their health as they age; nearly half worry about developing cancer, more than 1 in 4 are concerned about prostate problems and 1 in 3 are concerned about the prospect of developing bladder weakness.
Bladder weakness is more common than you think, with the same number of people experiencing conditions such as hay fever and asthma. 1 in 9 men in the UK currently experience some form of the condition, that’s around 3.6 million men - enough to fill the stadium at Twickenham 44 times over and Lord’s Cricket Ground 128 times over! Placing more importance on your health as a man, especially as you get older is important to help you keep fit and healthy. However, if you already experience a condition like bladder weakness, help is at hand and it doesn’t need to hold you back from exercising and enjoying sport.
Dr. Hilary Jones, spokesperson for the TENA Men:

Time to Tackle Your Health Campaign, says: ‘The fact that most men are not getting enough exercise is particularly surprising considering that men appear to grow more concerned about their health as they age. It is important that men place more importance on their health, especially as they get older. A common condition that men experience as they age is bladder weakness, which can be linked to an enlarged prostate or can be triggered by a range of medical conditions as well as other lifestyle factors.
